When I got married, 51 years ago, my sister sent me a butt load of recipe cards and pamphlets from her employer, the Hunt Wesson company. A version of this casserole was included. Instead of beefiness goop it called for a cup of water and a loving cup of frozen peas. Equally a very young, inexperienced cook this turned into i of our go-to favorite meals even after my culinary skills and repertoire improved. After my daughter was born and was sometime enough to ask for specific foods this was besides one of her favorite dishes. Up until she was a teenager, when asked what she wanted for her altogether dinner she would always asked for 'Casserole' even though she had the selection of any home cooked meal or eating place in town. In the early on days this would very ofttimes exist our 'day earlier payday' repast as I could go to the store with $5 and come up home with all the makings for a complete meal. LOL!

1.25.18 I think most of us have had versions of this dish known past many different names. I know I've made my own "hot dishes" over the years, and I never thought nigh cooking the macaroni right in the skillet...saved one muddy pan to wash! Information technology did get a little thick in one case the mac was cooked, and then I added some actress beef goop, merely this certainly was quick and piece of cake. Also, I think this is i of those recipes that you just have to conform the seaonings to your taste preferences. I was looking for a fiddling something different, then I did add more soy sauce and felt it needed more of a kicking, so more hot sauce besides. Not sure that I'd make over again, simply it was OK.

I am gluten costless and institute the Publix brand of penne pasta tasted improve than and then many other rice noodles I've used. We couldn't taste any difference!! Just Perfect for us!!

11/10/2019
I didn't take any Worcestershire sauce, so I added a footling flake of steak sauce and more soy sauce. Instead of one loving cup of beef goop, I used a fourteen oz can. Then far really proficient!. I remember side by side time, I am going to put a petty dunk fo sour cream on the acme to bring a footling cream to it! So far actually good!
05/11/2018

02/09/2019
This is by far the worst recipe I have ever fabricated. I followed the directions to the letter and have never been so disappointed. My married woman and I not but could not finish our portions. We, by the way, are Minnesotans.
03/28/2018
Terrific recipe! I subbed the beef w/ground turkey and used Dark-brown Rice Elbow Macaroni; otherwise, I followed the recipe equally written. My hello
04/08/2020
Fabricated information technology according to recipe. If I arrive once more, will subtract the macaroni past half!! Flavour was good, but way too much pasta and information technology did not agree well as a leftover due to pasta imbalance.
04/05/2020
My husband really loved this. I idea it had a little also much black pepper, simply otherwise it was perfect. Cooked the macaroni together with the other ingredients and information technology was done perfectly. Since I made information technology in Apr I did non use fresh tomatoes but using one 14 oz can of petite diced tomatoes worked out OK. I plant that I was defective a can of love apple sauce only substituted a can of tomato paste mixed with water in a fourteen oz tin can. If I made it again I would make information technology exactly as written except I would just apply 1/4 tsp. black pepper, then those who want more than tin can add information technology at he table.
04/02/2020
lots of flavor. I used leftover reheated macaroni and turkey burger. Worked great!
09/x/2020
This is fantastic! The flavors mix beautifully, the fresh tomatoes requite a spark to information technology that makes you want to eat all of it. I had it for dinner, brought some to work for lunch. Unfortunately the tomatoes loose their spark once in the fridge so information technology was adept but not equally good as the same day it was cooked. VERY tasty + filling.

Isolation inspiration! Wanted something different for footing beefiness and this was a hit! I never make this sort of dish, and so it was fun to do something very homey. Subbed tomatoe paste with h2o and some catsup for tomato plant sauce, but other than that followed recipe as stated. Volition brand it again equally requested by my hubby.

Everyone loved this at my house, I will definitely arrive once more and probably double the recipe so we accept enough leftovers for anybody. I didn't accept plenty onion on paw, but I added some minced onion to brand certain I got enough of the flavour to brand upwards for information technology.
07/07/2021
This was very good, quick and piece of cake. Nosotros cutting the recipe by one-half using the serving adjust characteristic. Everything halved beautifully except the hot sauce which increased to five/8 tsp from ane/viii probably due to some fraction rule. Despite calculation additional hot sauce, it was still succulent I added a dollop of sour cream which made it creamier to my serving.

I made the recipe as directed except for 1 thing, I only put in ane cup of elbow macaroni instead of 2 cups. It was very delicious, I will be making this once more.
04/18/2020
Delicious, piece of cake-to-make dish. I used a whole pepper and onion, and canned diced tomatoes, and a small can of tomato paste instead of tomato sauce, because that is what I had. I will indeed make it again. Thanks, JDawg!
07/16/2020
I made information technology exactly like directed. I ever idea pasta required boiling water.. and idea it was a mistake merely i tried it.. Information technology was succulent and very tasty! of course i added cayenne pepper for heat and fresh garlic, basil, and oregano.. and cheeeeesee. was much meliorate than I expected. kindof a cross between American chop suey, and hamburger helper but of course that homemade kuch healthier version.. this is a keeper
04/11/2020
This sound really good but I have1 question before making it. Practise you cook the Mac before adding it to the skillet or add it and information technology absorbs the juice while dish is cooking?
05/17/2020
I'm adding this to my go to menus.. quick and easy to brand also very flexible. I added i cup of beer and some beefiness bullion instead of the beef goop and left the chapeau off to make the sauce thicker
06/26/2021

For this Minnesotan, this hotdish is truly a sense of taste of home. It's exactly like the hotdish my mom used to make! Delicious! Thank you for sharing a very authentic Minnesota staple!
04/01/2021
I fabricated it and it was a striking. Everyone loved it.
05/08/2020
Very tasty. I used small bowtie pasta and was also out of tomato sauce so used a shop brand spaghetti/love apple sauce. Adjacent fourth dimension I'd add the balance of the pepper.
09/04/2020
Turned out quite practiced however added a little more seasoning. I used chipotle chili powder, adobo, oregano, cumin and little more garlic powder. I used carmine enchilada sauce instead of lycopersicon esculentum sauce. Forget to take a picture.
06/29/2021
Proficient comfort food. Easy dish to make. Made it step by stride. 4.25 stars. Yes, i would make it over again.
03/28/2021
Tastes like a slightly healthier hamburger helper. Made it without the hot sauce and information technology tasted great!
09/03/2021

07/02/2020
Not bad dish!!! Made information technology in the summer in AZ and was very good but would really be good during the wintertime on a cold rainy mean solar day!! The only change I fabricated was I added a 2d cup of beef broth towards the finish to give it a little more juice. Otherwise, I made information technology as per the recipe. I highly recommend this dish!

YUM! I unremarkably don't consume much macaroni. My kid prefers boxed mac-due north-cheese to bootleg, and I like other pasta for most dishes. But someone gave united states several large packages of macaroni recently, and so I turned to this site for inspiration. I'k so glad I found this recipe! My 8yo is thrilled. I never thought "dull old" hotdish could exist so tasty. And, I love that it only uses one pan!

Growing upwards in the Iowa, I've tried many variations of ground beef and macaroni dishes ("casserole" to my family) and this is easily downwardly our favorite. Fabricated information technology in my Instant Pot and it turned out not bad.
05/eighteen/2020
was splendid volition make again followed to the tee
01/30/2022
Very easy to make with a very good taste. Family loved it- comfort food not hot or spicy. I used a xiv oz can of diced tomato, and used dehydrated bong peppers instead of fresh (didnt take these items in my produce bin)... came out a little dryer than pictured, just still tasted corking.
09/05/2021
I needed an easy new "go-to" for my brother and myself, & this is it! Made it with canned tomatoes, without the hot sauce, & definitely without the greenish pepper! Delicious! Will make this once more many times, I'thou sure.
08/29/2021
I didn't put the table salt in , used the entire can of broth . And used caned love apple'due south instead of store bought ! We Beloved this !!!!
04/04/2022
It was expert. I used 2 cups of beef goop. Which if I didn't information technology wouldn't of had plenty liquid. I don't know why you need to put the macaroni in the pan with onions and peppers when it's not cooked it started to burn them. But it turned out good. I wouldn't put them in the pan with those again.
12/01/2020
I used red pepper instead of greenish.. Delicious
04/06/2020
Delicious! I followed the recipe and some suggestions too and that made for a very tasty dinner. I added some actress green pepper and onion and used a healthier rotini pasta instead of the regular one.
04/02/2020
Basic, tasty comfort food. I browned the beefiness with onion and seasonings as mentioned by a few other reviewers. Added mushrooms instead of bong pepper, as a personal preference. Used rotini vs elbows as I retrieve it holds sauce and the beef better. 2 cups of pasta was one-half of a 16 oz box. It was not besides much pasta for a pound of beef. The just consequence I had, which I'll avoid next time is that I expected the pasta to accept much longer to absorb the liquid and soften, since it wasn't being boiled commencement. So it was a bit mushy rather than al dente, by dinner fourth dimension. Still this was filling and had wonderful flavor. Added just a bit of shredded cheese equally garnish.
04/05/2020
The person who said it was atrocious didn't grow upward in my family. It was simply like my mom's: definitely good quondam-fashioned comfort food.
